Topping out celebrates high achievements at Bransholme Health Centre

The topping-out ceremony held at Bransholme Health Centre last Friday was deemed a success by all that attended.

Wed 30 Nov 2011

The new health centre, which is being developed by Citycare, the Hull based partnership between NHS Hull and local construction company, Sewell Group, hosted the ceremony as an opportunity for the wider community to see the development so far.

Members of the public were encouraged to attend to join key business figures and politicians in celebrating the work that has been achieved so far at the centre, which is due to open its doors next August.

Helene O’Mullane, councillor of the Bransholme West ward, said: "At such a difficult economic time it is wonderful to see the continuation of development in Hull, especially in the health sector.

"The new health services that will be on offer here will benefit absolutely everyone in the area. When public money is being stretched to the extent at which it is, a service which caters for everyone is a fantastic use of Hull’s resources."

The Bransholme Health Centre will house a variety of public health services, including occupational health services, sexual health and family planning, and mental health services. Space will also be available within the centre for community group meetings and will also house the team of GPs currently residing in the existing centre.

Jo Barnes, chief executive of Citycare, said: "It was fantastic to see so many people turn up and see for themselves the quality of the development in progress. This building, like all of our others, will have been built by an overwhelmingly local labour force; we set our target at 90%, and fully anticipate exceeding this. Local purchasing policies also mean that every pound invested in the building supports the local economy, creating jobs and business opportunity for small firms. We're proud of the team and the legacy they will leave behind."

The Bransholme Health Centre has been designed to cater for future needs of the area. The centre is the 11th to be built as part of the Local Investment Finance Trust (LIFT), the organisation that has worked with NHS Hull to provide the city with modern and economical health institutions.

Paul Sewell, managing director of Sewell Group, said: "I would like to congratulate the construction team and our supply chain for the excellent work which has been completed on this project. The ceremony was an important date in the progress calendar and was a great way to reflect on what has been achieved."
